House Tour continued!
Sorry it took me a while to get back to the tour of our condo. We’ve had a really busy few weeks here and, well, our place just wasn’t in very good shape for a while. We had a chance to pick some things up this weekend, though, so now seems like a good time to show you around some more. Actually, the timing is great because we did quite a bit of work, so you’re seeing the latest version anyway.
Because I made you wait so long, I’m going to give you a double dose this time, showing you our kitchen and my downstairs workroom, which I just did all the work on this weekend, actually.
First off let me say that if you thought the basement was bad, the kitchen was a pretty close second. The kitchen is actually 3 areas you could say. There’s the actual kitchen where the stove, the sink and the refrigerator are; then there’s the dining area; and, finally, a sitting area featuring a small alcove near the door that leads to the basement stairs. This will all make sense when you see the pictures, which you’ll find below.
Now just to show you how much work we’ve done, here are some pictures of the kitchen in various stages of progress in our redesign:
And now, our kitchen as it looks today:
Not to brag, but we think it looks pretty damn good compared to how it did when we moved in 5 months ago.
Next on our double dose we have my workroom, which is located in the basement. It’s the only part of the basement that is completely unfinished, so it makes a great space for me to get sawdust everywhere and let wood stain get on the ratty old carpet.
Sadly, because there just wasn’t much of interest in the room before now, there are only a few pictures of my dungeon from when we moved-in.
Despite those few pictures, I think you’ll still get a pretty good idea of all the work I did this weekend when you see the “After” shots:
Well, that about does it for now. I hope you’ve enjoyed this latest leg of the tour of Casa de Monkey. Check back soon for some more home redecorating when I’ll show you the spare bedroom.

good job you two…looks great and shows you both have put in alot of work…catch you later
This is pretty cool!!!! Your new home is great !!!! That counter top—WOW I can’t wait to see the rest!!!!!!
All those years of shop paid off. It looks really good, but why didn’t you stay with the green? It is like so 21st century!
Thanks for the comments, folks! We’re pretty proud of the job we’ve done so far.
Believe me, I wish now that I had taken a few shop classes. It’s funny how your priorities and perceptions change with time.
SpaceMonkey and wife.. wow, great countertop! Did you do yourselves? If so, was it difficult? they are tiles, yes?
Thanks, Gina! And, yes, we did the entire thing ourselves. We tore up the old countertop, put down the new plywood and concrete backerboard, glued down the tile, grouted and sealed it. We even installed the wooden railing that goes along the outside. We did every little piece ourselves (with a little help from my dad). It wasn’t too hard, though it was a little nerve-wracking to take on such a big project having never done it before. We wound up doing some research online and even found a Tile Shoppe chain in our area that did tile laying classes every Saturday morning. The good folks there gave us the confidence we needed and we just went for it. We’re pretty happy with how it turned out.
