9.5.02

Hey Kids! Sorry this update is late – the day off Monday completely screwed up my schedule this week and I forgot to do my monkey entry! But, here it is now and I’m in kind of a loopy mood for some odd reason, so be prepared for anything.

How was your Labor Day weekend? Pretty cool here. I did NOTHING. I barely left the damn house I did so little. Now, I did actually leave the house – more than once even – but it was generally to go to Blockbuster to either return or rent more movies. Otherwise, my butt was firmly planted in front of the TV or my computer monitor for pretty much the entire weekend. And ya know what? It felt good. I really needed a few days to just relax and think about nothing. I got a lot of writing done, watched a bunch of movies – pretty much exactly what I’d do if I didn’t have to work for a living. That’s happiness.

As I said, I got a lot of writing done over the long weekend. I’m really doing well on my one big story that I’m working on right now. Easily got about 20 pages written over the weekend. A message to Amber Bean, the Founder/President and Only Member That’s Not Related To Me of the Space Monkey X Fan Club: I will have something for you to read soon – probably late next week/early the week after. I haven’t been doing a lot of short story writing, though, and that’s something I really have to get back into the habit of doing if I want to get published. Quite frankly, no one is going to publish my first book I wouldn’t think, so I need to get a few short stories in some magazines before I can really progress. Have a few ideas, but have yet to get them written down. Need to do that soon.

Tale as old as time…song as old as rhyme…Beauty and the Beast

I have no idea why, but the theme song to Disney’s Beauty and the Beast has been stuck in my head all damn day. I haven’t heard the song lately. I haven’t even seen the movie in about ten years. There is really no reason for that song to be stuck in my head. I didn’t even realize I knew that many of the lyrics to the song! I don’t know the whole thing, but a lot more than I would have thought I did. At least it’s not “Tribute” from Tenacious D, which was on constant repeat for a good two weeks at one point. Wait. No, I’d rather it be “Tribute” stuck in my head because that’s a cool song. Shit…

Sent out 11 resumes Tuesday when the post office opened up again. Already got 1 rejection letter. Expecting to get 10 more any day now. Shit happens.

I think next week, in the spirit of all the 9/11 memorials, I’m going to take a look at how the events of that day have changed America – for better or worse. Be sure to tune in same Bat-time; same Bat- channel…er…Bat-address...er…Monkey-address.

Got my friend Jackie coming into town this weekend. Haven’t seen her since May or so. Have absolutely positively NO idea what the hell we’re going to do while she’s here, though. Hope she doesn’t get too bored.

If you love me, send bubble gum. Some writers smoke while they write; some drink alcohol. I chew bubble gum. My personal favorites are: Bubbilicious Twisted Tornado (I don’t know what the hell the flavor is supposed to be, but it’s kind of a tropical punch-type thing and it’s neon blue, so it works for me), the old stand-bys Strawberry Splash and Watermelon Wave and then I just picked up tonight, two 10-packs of Bazooka Joe. Good Lord is that Bazooka Joe sticky. It’s like movie bubble gum sticky. If I ever find myself in a decimated French town during World War II, my squad of men pinned down by an entire platoon of Nazis, including about four heavy tanks and a few recoilless guns, all I need to have on me is some Bazooka Joe gum and a few packages of TNT and I can take out the treads on those tanks, thus blocking the rest of the tanks entry into the city so we can work on picking off the ground troops until the P-51 Mustangs arrive and save the day. I only hope Tom Hanks doesn’t get killed this time.

Dude, I’m going to see “The Goonies” on the big screen this weekend! How cool is that? I never got to see it on the big screen when I was a kid; not sure why, but I know I didn’t catch it until it was on video. Best of all, it’s the director’s cut with a few added scenes and it’s apparently a brand new print, so it should be a thing of beauty. All I know is, Sloth love Chunk.

Alright. It’s 10:30 and I really need to get some writing done this evening. So, have a good weekend, and be sure to check back next week for my thoughts on post-9/11 America.

Both a little scared…neither one prepared…Beauty and the – damn it!
