Ahhhh, nothing like the old three-day work week. Actually, I guess it’s more of a two and a half-day work week as we get to leave at noon today. Honestly, what’s the point of coming in?

Should be a kick ass night this evening. After having dinner with Ben and his girlfriend Lori, I’ll be heading over to the oldest cinema in the STL area to see “2001:A Space Odyssey” on the big, big screen. Never seen this anywhere other than video, so this should be an experience and a half. No, I won’t be going in high as so many people did during its initial release so they could trip out when the guy goes through the monolith. Can’t wait to see it.

Had a good time last weekend at the wedding. I got to see a lot of people I haven’t seen in quite some time (Hello, if any of you are reading), from friends to family members. Actually, I got to thinking, almost my entire life was right there in front of me. I saw people who knew me from when I was just a little shit that would run up to my Aunt Pam’s and eat Froot Loops right out of the box while sitting in front of the satellite TV and listen to AC/DC records with my cousin. I saw people who remember me from when I lost Greedo in their living room, but they found the green-clad Star Wars guy a few days later under a chair. There were people who took care of me when I got the chicken pox while my parents were in Louisiana on vacation. I saw one friend that is responsible for getting me into comic books and so many late-night chats about girls, music, movies and God that it’s hard to comprehend. I had a quite nice chat with a friend whom I haven’t seen in easily 12 years and, well, she was always one of those people that I’d wondered what happened to her, so it was really good to catch up. Basically, all I’d needed was to see two more friends, one from my college days and another from my post-college days, and my entire life would have been covered. It was a very strange feeling, but then again, I guess it’s not often you’re around people who knew you, but don’t know you.

If I were doing any more writing, I wouldn’t be going to work. Ahhh, cherish the thought. Been working on my third and fourth stories for July’s Boundry entries and so far I’m pretty happy with the way things are turning out. Once again, they’re in the horror genre, but these are a little different. I’m working on stories based on “rural legends” (as opposed to the urban kind) from my hometown and the surrounding, rural communities. Sort of taking the legends and creating a backstory, as though I’m telling someone the tale of Junior’s Grave in Fisher and The Devil’s Chair in…well, I can’t remember where that legendary landmark was supposed to be now. It’s been a lot of fun taking an element and making it my own. Some of you should appreciate the effort if you grew up hearing about these tales from older siblings as I did. Regardless, it’s been a lot of fun.

Tomorrow should be interesting. Going to be spending a whole day in the hot damned Missouri sun, eating steak, drinking beer, and then at 4:30, going to see The Village People. Yes, you read that correctly, the Macho Men themselves are going to be playing at O’Fallon’s Freedom Festival. I’m not a huge fan, pretty much only know their three big hits, but when you have a chance to see such cultural icons as this, you don’t pass that up. If nothing else it’s a good conversation piece for the library, ya know? Should be interesting.

Friday I head downtown to see some friends who are stopping in for the festivities. Plan on doing dinner and some drinking down at The Landing, which hopefully won’t be absolutely stupidly crowded, but I’m pretty much expecting it to be obnoxiously stupidly crowded. But, should be fun either way. Should be fun unless the dream I had a few months ago should come true. I'm not making this up, either. I had a dream that I was downtown on a summer night, near the big old courthouse with the Arch plainly in view, and a jet plane goes roaring very low overhead, so loud its deafening. It ends up slamming into the base of the Arch, and, well, I think you can figure out how things progressed from there. Not exactly a nice dream to be having and hopefully not a prophetic one. Let's keep our fingers crossed, shall we?

Saturday looks to be pretty boring after my fencing class, until midnight when I’ll have my butt seated before the big screen to see The Princess Bride. Never seen that on the big screen and should be a ball.

The next weekend is our big house warming party. So far just about every sleeping place we have available has been filled with only two more people who are going to try to make it but have to see how things work out first. Going to be a packed house, that’s for sure. Sounds like it’s going to be quite a shindig as the new homeowner plans on getting a keg and also making a supersize quantity of his custom, kick your ass drink known as, The Chief. However, I have to maintain some sense of soberness throughout the event as quite a few people from our workplace will be showing up and the last thing I want to hear come Monday is cracks about me stumbling around and accidentally hitting on my boss’ wife or something. Damn maturity to hell.

Well, I guess I’d better head out for now. Have a good, safe July 4th weekend and try not to blow your fingers off.

Ya know, I have basically nothing else to do for the next hour and half, so I'm going to go ahead and publish my latest Boundry entry now. Check The Boundry for the first story in my month o' horror.
