7.10.02 What up, G!? Sorry, I’m in a kind of a weird mood today. Perhaps it’s the lack of sleep. Maybe it’s the fact that it’s almost Friday and this hellishly slow week will finally be coming to a much-needed end. Maybe it’s because…well, I don’t know. Just one of those days, ya know? So how was your July 4th weekend? Mine was pretty cool. Ate steak, drank beer, saw the Village People (more on that in a bit), set off some fireworks, watched a ton of fireworks from our backyard, and generally had a good time on the holiday itself. The next day, however, sucked big time. I get up relatively early and, as I suspected I would at some point on my day off, went into the office for a bit. I registered a new domain that you should probably go check out, and then ran over to Jiffey Lube to have my radiator flushed. Ya see, at some point during my whole car repair fiasco back in April, some stupid mechanic put the wrong coolant in my car and then some even dumber mechanic put the right coolant in my car without properly flushing the old stuff, so I had a mix in my tank. Apparently this is not a good situation, so I needed to get my radiator flushed and refilled with the right stuff. After waiting 90 minutes for something they said would take 30, the geniuses at Jiffey Lube put in the wrong fluid – despite the fact that I reminded them to put in the correct fluid. So, yeah, I was a little pissed, but I didn’t have to pay for the flush, so I guess it could have been worse. After that waste of time, I ran and got comics, so that helped brighten my day some. Then, that evening, I met some friends who were in town for the holiday, down at The Landing for dinner. Had a good time seeing them, but as I went to an ATM to get cash, the ATM never gave me my $40. So I went to another and got cash. Yep, you guessed it, the first ATM charged me for the $40 I never received! Well, since then I’ve had it taken care of, but it was quite a crappy moment for me you can believe that. So, yeah, Friday was bad. Saturday and Sunday rocked pretty hard, though, as I got a TON of writing done. Actually wrote one entire, 12-page story on Saturday. I was a writing fool! Got back into my Daily Cup O’ Joe site as well that weekend, so that’s been a lot of fun reading through the old comics and writing my silly little synopsis of them. So, back to the Village People - got to see them on July 4 at O’Fallon’s Freedom Celebration. It sounds all impressive, but really all it is is a carnival. Anyway, the VP came up on stage wearing their traditional costumes – Army guy, Indian, cowboy, construction worker, leather fetishist biker, and cop – and it was quite surreal. However, as I was standing in the blazing Missouri sun eating my sno cone, I couldn’t help but think how sad it was that these 50-year old guys were still doing this after all these years. And the worst part was – they thought they were still the shit. They were singing along to karaoke versions of their songs and doing choreographed dance moves that were so lame they looked like something guys would do in a high school lip synching talent show for a pep rally before the big game. As one friend put it, “They have to get paid”, but I can’t believe they aren’t making the cash hand over fist from EVERY sporting event using their signature song, YMCA. I guess they might not have full rights to the song or something, so maybe they aren’t making as much as I think they would be, but if that’s the case, they really need to get a better lawyer. Either way, we didn’t stick around very long as the sun was destroying us, so we left before hearing YMCA. We did hear one of my favorite songs as a kid though, Macho Man. I wonder how worried my dad was when I was running around at the age of 4 singing that? As we were leaving we heard In the Navy, but we were already out of range by the time it was over. Surreal event and at least now I can say I’ve seen them in concert…if I ever want to admit that. Well, the only other big news of the week was my starting the STL Film Club. As you know, this is something I’ve wanted to do for a while and I just finally said, “screw it” and went ahead and did it. Got the website uploaded and got my message boards setup on Monday, so basically it’s ready to go. Now I just need to let people know it exists. I’m working on some ideas, hopefully in conjunction with a local theater that I love, so I’ll just have to see where it goes from here. I’ll keep you posted as to the progress. This weekend looks to be pretty fun. Monte’s housewarming party kicks off Saturday at noon and is pretty much an all-day affair with people from work stopping through to get a drink of O’Fallon Gold beer on tap and the infamous Chief punch, as well as eating steak, burgers, etc. The coolest part is all the friends that are coming into town for the event, some people I haven’t seen in about 2 years. So, I’m really looking forward to it. Sadly, not everyone that was invited could come, but that’s understandable when most of the people you know live at least 3 hours away. They will be missed, but we’ll still have a good time without them. I guess that about covers it for now. Check The Boundry tomorrow for a new entry. Check out STL Film Club’s site and soon you’ll be able to check out Daily Cup O’ Joe to see some G.I. Joe comic book stuff. Oh, shit! I almost forgot! Go HERE and see pics of Monte’s house! Man…if my head weren’t screwed on… Have a good weekend and I’ll see you next week! Space Monkey X | |||
