Ugh. Sorry folks, I just haven’t had a whole lot to write about lately. I’ve wanted to find something, but sadly it just hasn’t been
there. I thought I had a good topic, but it turned out that if I’d written it I would have been sort of going backwards to something
that I felt at one time, but no longer feel, so I thought it was kind of pointless.
So, I guess maybe just an update is in order. Been reading a lot lately. I just finished Robinson Crusoe and I’m already on the
second travel of Gulliver as we speak. Next will probably be Alice in Wonderland and its sequel, Through the Looking Glass, rounded up
with a nice double dose of Missouri’s own, Mark Twain, with Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer. God, I love the discount bookstore in Tuscola -
$3 each for the classics!
Been kind of stalled on my writing projects. The friend that I’m collaborating with is a little busy trying to find an apartment and a
job to do any work, so I don’t blame him. My art/writing thing is still in the “research” phase – trying to get a handle on the art
style needed. My book on the Pharaoh is in a holding pattern, however, I plan to write the full outline for that this weekend. My
shadow people story is always on my mind, but not at my fingertips. I plan to have that FINISHED this weekend. I really just need to
take Friday night and just pound it out. Did I mention I have no money to do anything this weekend? Yeah, I’m broke ass, so might as
well get some writing done.
Got a damn cold. It’s the first time I’ve been sick in probably 2 years. Got it from some carrier monkey at the Green Day concert.
It’s just the nose, too; that’s the worst part. I have one of those “sniffle headaches” that just won’t go away. Well, it’ll work
itself out soon.
Ok, here’s something worthy of putting in two cents about. I’m trying to go the summer on as little television as possible. I’ve
narrowed it down to only a few things that I’ll put in the time to watch – Futurama, Simpsons, anything that’s going to teach me
something, say on TLC, History or Discovery (figure that’s about the same as reading a book), and movies on one of the movie channels.
Now I’m not saying “Oh! Hey, look, Ernest Goes to Camp is on!”, I’m talking movies that are actually supposed to be good; so, of
course, these are my last choice because they rarely ever play good movies on any of the home movie channels. But that’s where my
DVD’s come in.
Watching a movie on DVD is not watching TV to me – that’s watching a movie. So, I’ll sit in front of the tube for 24 hours watching
every DVD I own and not feel too bad about it. Movies are very different to me than sitcoms. Movies take some type of investment for
those two hours, whereas I can’t remember Friends episodes from one week to the next – I just don’t care about them. I’ve been
noticing for a while that I didn’t pay attention to TV anymore. Ben and Monte can quote lines from ER’s first season and I’m still
trying to remember who Dr. Ross was. So, I figure that if it doesn’t mean anything to me, than I shouldn’t be doing it. I should be
writing, I should be reading, I should be drawing, I should be working out (which I’ve been doing quite a bit of lately, by the way).
Now this will change somewhat when the new TV season starts up, but only slightly. I’m going to add in shows that challenge me
somehow, get me thinking. Shows like West Wing and Boston Public are the only two I can think of to add to my repertoire. Ok, I’ll
throw in Ed, too, but just because it’s one of the few shows that’s entertaining and well-done – plus I could just stare at that Carol
Vessie all day. So I’m talking 4 hours a week that I’ll be watching TV. Whoops, throw in Soprano’s and Survivor when they finally
come back on and we’re talking 6 hours. That’s not bad considering I used to watch about that many hours a night. I just hope I stick
to it this summer – that will be the big test. If I can do that then I think I’ll be home free.
Ok, that about does it for the night. I’m dead tired for some odd reason, so I’m going to hit the sack.
