Hello, my delightful readers. Don’t you just love four-day workweeks? How about two four-day workweeks in a row? Yeah, it’s a
little slice o’ heaven, I tell ya. However, I am feeling a bit rushed this week as far as my workouts go. Mainly because the gym
wasn’t open Monday due to the holiday and Friday I’m going to a Cardinal’s game, so I’ve had to do three weightlifting sessions
right on top of each other whereas I try to have at least one day’s rest somewhere in there, preferably one day between each.
Speaking of the gym, I’m trying creatine again and thus far I’m feeling good about it. Creatine is an amino acid generally found in
foods like steak and fish, but the problem is, you lose the creatine when you cook the item. Basically, what it does is give you
more energy while doing exercises like lifting, so therefore you should be able to lift more weight. I think it might have kicked
in tonight because I was simply on fire! Bumped my leg press up 75 pounds to 300, last week I was machine pressing 135, this week I
bumped it to 155. So, hopefully I’ll be looking all buff soon. Yeah…right.
So how was your Memorial Day weekend? Mine was good because I did very little. Watched a ton of movies (go check the journal),
drank some beer, got some writing stuff done, even got a little packing done for the move into Monte’s new house soon. It was a
good weekend and one that seemed to take forever, so it really felt like I got a break from work. I couldn’t have been much
happier.
Hit some golf balls for the first time in two years. Felt good. Had some pretty good shots. I’m good on distance, but it’s
keeping her in the fairway that’s my problem. (Why does that sound dirty?) I don’t see me playing a real game anytime soon, but I
think I might make the driving range a weekend habit whenever possible.
Have I told you guys that I’m considering starting a film club here in St. Louis? I’ve been kicking around the idea for a while now
and last weekend I really got to working on it. So what is a film club? Well, it’s where people get together to watch movies
(either in the theater or on someone’s home system) and talk about film. And after seeing the huge turnout for a midnight screening
of The Shining last weekend, I definitely think there would be interest in such a thing here. (By the way, it kicked ass to see The
Shining on the big screen again) So while starting this club is in the forefront of my mind, I need to wait and see how my job
situation pans out. I’d hate to start a club and then abandon it a month later because I ended up getting a job in Rhode Island or
something.
Speaking of the job situation, I MIGHT be getting a bit of an upgrade here at work pretty soon. Apparently the city needs someone
to do some GIS work and rather than hire from outside, the current plan is to simply hire me. It will mean a pay raise and, of
course, increased responsibilities, but it’s GIS so I’m all over it. So why the MIGHT? Well, the current city administrator, who
was filling in for someone who left recently, did NOT get the permanent job of city administrator. So they’re bringing in a new guy
and, well, he doesn’t know me or what I’m capable of, whereas the old city administrator does. So whereas before the plan was to
bring me up, who knows what this new guy is going to do. He might say “no” to someone with no experience and look elsewhere; or he
could say “sure” because I’m young, motivated and will work for less than anyone else in the GIS field. Basically, if he goes with
the latter scenario, I’ll stick around for a while and be ok to start the film club. However, if he goes with the former scenario,
I start the job hunt again and try to get outta here. So, yeah, I’m a stressed out little monkey right now. Wish me luck.
This weekend looks to be cool as hell. Friday is a baseball game. Even if it is the Cardinals, baseball is baseball and I’ll watch
anyone play it. After the game, I’m going with a few friends to see Rushmore at a special midnight screening. God, I love that
movie! Saturday I think I’m going to pack up and move some stuff to the new house and then go see The Sum of All Fears. What can I
say? I’m a Jack Ryan fan. After the movie, I’ll probably be heading down to the most over-hyped place on the planet, The Landing,
to see some friends who have come into town for the weekend. Sunday…well, probably trying to catch up on sleep and/or writing.
Either way, should be a cool weekend.
Oh! Meant to tell you – I don’t think I’ll be posting anything on The Boundry this week. I only have about an hour left to write
tonight and I’m not sure what tomorrow has in store for me as we’re painting the new house and might start moving a few things in.
So, The Boundry looks to be stagnant for a while, as does my writing in general unless I can get something done Sunday. Anyway,
I’ll keep you posted.
Well, I think that about covers it for the week. I need to end with yet another congratulations for two people who are getting
married! Man…bachelors are dropping like flies around here! Congratulations to Mark “Butch” Brake on his engagement. He and his
girlfriend seem to be perfect for each other as well and I really don’t see them having any troubles in life either. I’m very happy
for them and can’t wait until the wedding sometime around the first of the year, which I have been asked to be a groomsman for. It
took me a few days to agree to his request, but I’m glad I did. (Please note the sarcasm. I accepted immediately!) Congrats guys!
And, just to update from last week, JK and Ellen have asked me to be an usher in their little shindig a year from now and, of
course, I graciously accepted. Hopefully by then I’ll be looking damn good in a tux.
Ok, well, unless anyone else I know plans to get married in the next 30 seconds, I think I’ll let you go for now. Have a good, safe
weekend and go see The Sum of All Fears.
