First let me begin by saying “Thank you” to all the family and friends who have been sending well wishes over the last few days. I’m
happy that I have a forum such as this to be able to share the events of my life with you. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy to
know that there are people who are at least intrigued – if not outright care – about what’s been going on with my search for answers.
Thanks again.
So…how do I top the last entry? Well, I don’t. How could I possibly? Instead, the best thing for me to do would be to get back to
normal.
Which means the question must be asked, “what have I been up to this week?” “Not a whole hell of a lot” would be my answer. You
would think that after the whirlwind weekend I had last, that it wouldn’t really feel like I had any kind of break at all from work.
On the contrary, this week has been pretty kick ass for me. It’s flying by! And thank god, too. I’m really looking forward to this
weekend, despite the fact that I’m back to having no money again. I guess I’m just interested in having a calm weekend once more. I
can get some writing done (more on that later) and maybe watch a movie or two. Not go on a life-altering journey across the state of
Illinois that will take me one-step closer to answering all the burning questions about myself. Ahhhh, the banality of everyday
life.
Speaking of writing, I’ve been doing a lot of it lately. I’m working on one story that is already twenty pages long, told mostly as
though the narrator were right here telling you what happened to him as a kid. Obviously he doesn’t recreate dialog as he’s telling
his story, but I’m beginning to think that maybe this story might be interesting enough that I might want to go back and flesh out
those scenes with dialog and living characters instead of just names and descriptions. And I’m still working (sporadically) on an
opus that’s already fifty-four pages long and I still have to write the third act! Plus I already know some changes I want to make
for the second draft! I should really finish the first draft of that one before I go nuts working on the flashback one. Maybe
that’s what I’ll do this weekend. Oh, did I mention that I have another two stories that I’m doing research for, sitting on the
shelf just waiting to be told? Not to mention the weekly entry for The Boundry! Man…maybe I won’t be seeing any movies this
weekend.
Also speaking of writing, I think I’m going to start submitting some of my work to editors for publication. I figure, why not? All
they can say is “no”. It’s not like they’re going to come back to me and say, “Ya know? You really suck!” They’re just going to
send me a form rejection letter saying that what I’ve written is not what they’re looking for at this time, but I am encouraged to
continue to send in more samples of my work for future consideration. I can handle that kind of rejection. In the meantime, I’ll
keep self-publishing on The Boundry and working on one they can turn down again. Whatever. Why not?
My parents were in town Tuesday, stopped up through O’Fallon (I like to call my current home “Otown” for future reference) to see me
on their way home from Florida. They had a pretty rough vacation thanks to car trouble, so I was very happy they took the time to
come up and see me. We had dinner where I gave them the whole story of my weekend as well as a picture show (Again, thank god for
one-hour photo development) and got a chance to talk about all kinds of things before they went back to their hotel and hit the sack
for some much-deserved sleep. Either way, it was nice to see them.
Oh! My Monday was quite interesting for me. Went to the gym after not working out for darn near a week thanks to my sudden
departure of last Wednesday and despite the layoff, somehow lost five pounds. So not only did that kick ass, but that means I’m
right in the forty pound weight loss area. Two more pounds and it’ll be official. Maybe this week? I can only hope…and the two
hours on the bike I did tonight sure can’t hurt.
Well, after seeing all the writing I have ahead of me, I think I’d better close for the evening and get to it. I still have a
Boundry entry to make for this week – Episode 3 of 9 Months – and since I have class tomorrow night, this is will be only night to
really get it done before the Friday deadline! So, I guess I’ll be seeing you next week. Hopefully something interesting will
happen to me this weekend, but then again…I could stand a nice, boring weekend at home, too.
